Okohjae is a cultural property located along with Jewoldang in the Hoedeok area of Daedeok-gu, Daejeon.
It is a traditional private house with a main house and a sarangchae in a [ㄷ] shaped floor plan right behind Jewoldang.
Here, Song Sang-gi (1657-1723), the eldest son of Jewoldang Song Gyu-ryeom (1630-1709), who was revered as one of the three Songs along with Uam Song Si-yeol and Dongchundang Song Jun-gil, and a contemporary writer who served as Daejehak, hung the Okohjaeran plaque, named after his pen name. Yes.
The meaning of [Jade Ojae] comes from the rebuttal of the Ming Dynasty Confucian scholar [Bang Jeong-hak] who said, “I would rather be intact as a tile, but not as a broken jade.”
In other words, it contains the spirit of willing to risk even death to maintain loyal words and morals even in the chaotic political situation of the time.
This building was recognized for its cultural value and was designated as a tangible cultural property of Daejeon Metropolitan City on March 18, 1989, along with Jewoldang, and is currently owned by Song Gyu-ryeom's descendants.

Introduction to Jewoldang

Jewoldang is a cultural property located along with Okohjae in the Hoedeok area of Daedeok-gu, Daejeon.
This is a separate building built in 1676 (the 2nd year of King Sukjong’s reign) by Jewoldang Song Gyu-ryeom (1630-1709), who was revered as one of the three Songs along with Uam Song Si-yeol and Dongchundang Song Jun-gil.
Song Gyu-ryeom passed the civil service examination in 1653 (the 4th year of King Hyojong's reign) and held important positions at Sungkyunkwan and other institutions. Jewoldang is a house with 3 rooms on the front and 2 rooms on the side. Of the 3 rooms on the front, the main hall was decorated with a well-marued main hall on the right 2-room door, and an ondol room was built on the 1-room door on the left. One additional room was added behind the ondol room, so that the upper part was an attic and the lower part was a compartment. I am using it.
The roof is a single-eave gable roof, and there is a signboard for Jewoldang hanging on the front.
The structure and shape of the house clearly show signs of being built in imitation of Dongchundang.
