Introduction to Guam Park

It is a park built around Heoheobawi Rock, a natural rock cave under Tapsan Mountain. There is a legend that Heo Seon-moon, the progenitor of the Yangcheon Heo clan, was born in Heoheobawi Rock.
Guam Park is a memorial park for Heo Jun, also known as Uiseong, and Guam (龜巖) is the pen name of Heo Jun.
The place where Heo Jun retired from public office and wrote the famous Donguibogam is Heoheobawi Rock Cave, which is now Guam Park.
In Guam Park, a portion of the Han River was cut off to resemble a lake due to the construction of Olympic Boulevard, and apartment buildings rise high into the sky, surrounding it like a folding screen.
There is a statue of Dr. Heo Jun sitting here, showing his benevolent appearance treating a patient.
On one side, there is a beautiful lake, and inside the lake is the ancient, porous Gwangju Rock, which has an interesting legend.
Before the Yanghwa Bridge was built, this was the Gongam ferry crossing across the lower Han River, and there is Heoheobawi Rock Cave, where many people took refuge during several coups, the Japanese Invasion of Korea, the Byeongja Manchu War, and even the Korean War.

Introduction to Yangcheonhyanggyo

Yangcheonhyanggyo, located in Gayang-dong, Gangseo-gu, is the only remaining Hyanggyo in Seoul and is designated as a Seoul Metropolitan Government monument.
It was built in the 12th year of King Taejong's reign (1411) during the Joseon Dynasty, and became the only Confucian school remaining in Seoul when it was incorporated from Gayang-ri, Gimpo-gun, Gyeonggi-do into Seoul in 1963.
It is said that Yangcheonhyanggyo never missed a ancestral rite even under the pressure of Japan during the Japanese colonial period.
There are eight buildings, including Daeseongjeon, Myeongryundang, Jeonsacheong, Dongjae, Study, Naesammun, Oesammun, and annex buildings.
Currently, Yangcheonhyanggyo holds a memorial service twice a year, in the spring and fall, and strives to educate youth and recreate old traditional culture by teaching Chinese characters, calligraphy, and the Four Gentlemen to local residents and elementary and middle school students.
Yuyedang, located in front of the outer gate of Yangcheon Hyanggyo, was newly built by the Gangseo-gu Office in 2007. Cultural events and various folk games are performed in the Yuyedang play area.

Seoul Yangcheon Ancient Fortress Site

Introduction to Yangcheon Ancient Fortress Site in Seoul

Yangcheon Ancient Fortress Site is a Teme-style fortress site located on Gungsan Mountain, the main mountain of Yangcheon-hyeon during the Joseon Dynasty.
Gungsan Mountain is a low peak of about 74 meters on the banks of the Han River.
Anyangcheon Stream flows to the south of Gungsan Mountain, meets the Han River, and on the north side across the Han River is Haengjusanseong Fortress.
Yangcheon Fortress appears to have been built around a flat area with a circumference of about 200m at the top of Gungsan Mountain.
According to records, the length of the wall is 218 meters.
It is presumed to be a mixed earth-stone construction, with a foundation made of stones and soil piled on top.
It appears in literary records such as Sinjeung Dongguk Yeoji Seungnam, Yeojidoseo, and Daedongjiji, and it is unknown when the fortress was built.
However, several surface surveys revealed many pieces of pottery and tiles from the Unified Silla period, and considering that Haengjusanseong Fortress across the river was built during the Unified Silla period, it appears that Yangcheon Goseong was also built during the Unified Silla period.
Also, during the Japanese Invasion of Korea, General Kim Cheon-il and others led the volunteer army and were stationed at this fortress, and then helped General Kwon Yul and participated in the Battle of Haengju.
In 1994, Soakru, which has been around since ancient times on the east side of the mountain peak, was beautifully restored and has become a tourist resting place for Gangseo-gu residents.
Yangcheon Ancient Fortress Site in Seoul is located approximately 500 meters away from Exit 2 of Yangcheonhyanggyo Station on the metropolitan subway.

Monument to Patriotic Marriage

Introduction to the National Patriotic Marriage Monument

There is a memorial monument to the loyal souls of the country in Gaehwa Sanhoguk Park, 15 minutes away from Gaehwa Station on Seoul Subway Line 9.
As the fate of the country was put in jeopardy by North Korea's armed invasion of South Korea on June 25, 1950, about 1,100 soldiers from the 11th, 12th, and 15th Regiments of the Army's 1st Division retreated to the Gimpo area and made their final stand on Gaehwasan Mountain from June 26 to 30. They set up defensive positions and engaged in battle against the enemy's large force.
Unfortunately, communication with the headquarters was cut off, ammunition and supplies were cut off, and all members of the unit were brutally oxidized in the Gaehwasan Valley due to the number and firepower of the North Korean army.
A memorial monument was erected on Gaehwasan Mountain in 1994 to comfort the souls of those who sacrificed their lives for their country and people.
The 4.7m high cenotaph is made up of an octagonal base resting on top of a tombstone that resembles two neatly placed hands and a lotus flower.
The names of about 1,100 fallen soldiers are engraved on the left side of the cenotaph, and on the right side, the names of veterans, veterans of the military service, and survivors are engraved.
A memorial service is held here every year on June 28th.

Banghwa Bridge

Introduction to Banghwa Bridge

Banghwa Bridge is one of the Hangang Bridges built to enable Incheon International Airport to fulfill its role as a hub airport in Northeast Asia in the 21st century.
At 2.6km in length, it is the longest bridge over the Han River. It is the 27th bridge over the Han River designed and constructed with a long-span arch truss structure, the first in Korea, and boasts excellent artistry and functionality.
The arch of the bridge borrows the soft image of traditional temples and tile-roofed houses, making it the third artificial peak following Gaehwasan Mountain and Deogyangsan Mountain.
The geometric shape reminiscent of a huge aircraft about to take off and the enchanting night view reflected on the waves of the Han River at night leave viewers amazed.
The lights on the bridge are turned on from approximately 19:00 to 23:30 in the evening, so you have plenty of time to enjoy the drive while enjoying the bridge and the night view of Korea.
The night view is beautiful, but the sight of the sun setting beyond Banghwa Bridge at sunset harmonizing with the arch of Banghwa Bridge is a truly breathtaking sight.
Banghwa Bridge itself is located on the outskirts of Seoul, so you can escape from the stuffy city center and enjoy the bike path or walking path in a leisurely mood.
