Introduction to Geumjeongsan Mountain (Busan National Geopark)

A national geopark refers to a park certified by the Minister of Environment (Article 2, Paragraph 4-2 of the Natural Parks Act) to preserve an area that is geoscientifically important and has excellent scenery and to utilize it for education, tourism, etc.
Geumjeongsan National Geopark is a mountain that forms the root of Busan's land, formed about 70 million years ago by the elevation of granite created when magma cooled underground.
You can enjoy the elegant granite terrain such as strange rock cliffs, Tor, Nama, Inselberg, and Blokstream, which have been carved and polished by wind and rain over a long period of time.
Most mountain fortresses are built on summits at an altitude of 500 to 800 meters, including Godangbong Peak, the main peak of Geumjeongsan Mountain, Janggunbong Peak, Wonhyobong Peak, and Sanghakbong Peak, and on the ridges between these peaks.
On these mountain peaks and ridges, many tors, which are unique rock formations, are observed due to exposure of large and small bedrock of the Bulguksa granite type from the Cretaceous period.
The geology that makes up Mt. Geumjeong consists of the Gyeongsanggye sedimentary rock layer, the volcanic rocks that intruded or erupted from it, and the Bulguksa granite and Masanite that later intruded into these rocks.
Geumjeong Mountain, registered as a national geopark, boasts beautiful scenery with strangely shaped rocks and nature in perfect harmony.

There is a record that the monk Oh Seong-wol opened the first Buddhist temple at Geumgangam in Beomeosa Temple in 1899, so it can be said to be significant in that Geumgangam was the starting point of a sensation at the time.
The name of Geumgangam was discovered among the rebuilt stone gates that were made in the 1800s and remain today, so we can only guess at the time when Beomeosa Temple Geumgangam was rebuilt.
In the 1980s, Byeokpa began to reside at Geumgangam Hermitage at Beomeosa Temple as the chief priest, and Geumgangam Hermitage, which was just a small hermitage within the mountain of Beomeosa Temple, gradually gained fame and began to expand. If you go towards the north gate of Geumjeongsan Mountain on the left side of Beomeosa Temple, you will come across Daeseongam Hermitage.
