Introduction to Yonggungsa Temple (Incheon)

It was founded by Master Wonhyo in the 10th year of the reign of King Munmu of Silla (670) and was named Baekunsa Temple, named after the mountain.
It is said that Heungseon Daewongun Lee Ha-eung stayed at this temple and prayed for 10 years.
When King Gojong ascended to the throne in 1864, Heungseon Daewongun moved the temple to the old site and changed its name from Gudamsa Temple to Yonggungsa Temple.
One theory is that it was named after a legend that a fisherman named Yun Gong, who lives in Wolchon, Jungsan, Yeongjong Island, had a dream and dragged a small jade Buddha from the sea with a fishing net to enshrine it in this temple.
Gwaneumjeon Hall, rebuilt by Heungseon Daewongun, the main room where Daewongun's handwritten plaque hangs, and guest temples such as Chilseonggak and Yonghwanggak remain.
In Gwaneumjeon, a statue of Gwaneum sits against the backdrop of an old-fashioned post-Buddha painting.
A poem written by Haegang Kim Gyu-jin is engraved on the pillars of the temple.
At the entrance to the temple, there are two old zelkova trees that are over 1,000 years old, and the path leading to Yonggungsa Temple passes through a dense forest of trees, so you can enjoy forest bathing at the same time.

Introduction to Yeonan Pier

It is the departure point for passenger ships sailing to islands in the West Sea.
There is Incheon General Fish Market where you can purchase fresh fish and salted fish at low prices, a raw fish center directly managed by the fisheries cooperative (60-70% of the regular market price), Namhang Pier where you can enjoy sea fishing, and several seawater baths.
It was recently designated as a special tourist zone.
Yeonan Pier, the place where you can hear the loud sound of ship horns from the closest distance, is a symbol of Jung-gu, Incheon, a maritime city, and is also a place visited by many people who want to go to an unknown island.

The Incheon General Fish Market located at the coastal pier is always crowded with people all year round.
This is because people who want to buy fresher and cheaper fish come to this place.
The area off the coast of Incheon is a sea fishing paradise worthy of its praise as a golden fishing ground.
The points include Deokjeokdo, Pungdo, Seungbongdo, Jawoldo, Ijakdo, Yukdo, Samdo, Changseo, Budo, Baekam, and Yeongheungdo.
Namhang Pier is the place where sea fishing boats depart. In addition to private fishing, we also rent out vessels for various purposes, such as holding marine seminars on the boat, providing a place to camp, and arranging marine leisure sports.
At the waterfront park within the coastal pier, there is a dolphin fountain show every night from spring to fall, and there are rose vines and a small zoo within the waterfront park.

Introduction to Muuido

Muuido is an island located in Jung-gu, Incheon Metropolitan City.
In the past, it was only accessible by boat, but with the opening of the Muui Bridge in 2019, vehicle access became possible.
However, as traffic volume has increased nearly tenfold since the bridge opened, the number of vehicles entering Muuido on weekends and public holidays will be limited to 900 until July 29, 2019.
There are islands such as Silmido and Somuuido around Muuido, and they are connected by a land bridge (Gwangmyeong Port dock to Somuuido), so you can get to Somuuido in 10 to 15 minutes on foot.

You can take the Muuido village bus from Keunmuri Pier to Gwangmyeong Port.
To truly enjoy the beautiful scenery of Somuui Island, you must walk Muui Sea Nuri-gil Course 8.
It takes about an hour and you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the West Sea along the 'Somu's Footbridge Road' and the 'Myeongsa Beach Road'.

A place that is gaining popularity is a place called Muuido Serengeti.
Muuido has such an exotic feel that it reminds me of the Serengeti as a backpacking destination.
You can park at Gwangmyeong Port, located in front of Somuui Island.
When you see the sign for the hiking trail from Gwangmyeong Port to Horyonggok Mountain, follow the road to the left and you will reach the coast.
As you pass by the rocks on the coast, you will come across a photo zone that is famous online, and if you pass through this zone, you will arrive at the Serengeti of Muuido.

Muuido is also famous for its two beaches.
These are Hanagae Beach and Silmi Beach, which is privately owned.
In particular, at Silmi Beach, the sea road is open during low tide, so you can walk to Silmido.
Also, at Hanagae Beach, you can enjoy hiking up Mount Horyonggok and Guksabong Peak.

* Silmi Beach
Silmi Beach has a 2km crescent-shaped sandy beach and a colony of beautiful pine trees that are about 100 years old.
Also, during low tide, the mudflat between Silmi Beach and Silmido Island is still alive with octopuses building nests and snails, crabs, and conchfish alive.
There is also a forest bathing area and a tent camping site across a dense cypress forest.

* Hanagae Beach
Hanagae Beach, which means the largest mud flat on the island, can be reached in about 10 minutes by car from the dock.
The cool sea spreads out in front of the mudflat covered with sand as fine as flour.
On a clear day, the scenery is so good that you can even see Cape Jangsan in Hwanghae Province in the distance.
You can have a unique experience by staying in a cabin-style bungalow on the beach, and there is a constant stream of people visiting the set of [Stairway to Heaven], which was filmed here in the past and was popularly aired.

Introduction to Yongyudo

Yongyudo Island was named so because it resembles a dragon swimming and playing in the sea.
With the construction of Incheon International Airport, the area between Yeongjong Island, Sinbul Island, and Sammok Island, which were close to Yongyu Island, was reclaimed to become what it is today.
Yongyudo Island, combined with Yeongjongdo Island, is quickly connected to downtown Seoul and the metropolitan area through Yeongjong Bridge and Incheon Bridge, and is attracting attention as a weekend outing destination.
There are many large and small beaches on Yongyudo Island, the most famous of which is Eulwangni Beach.
There are beautiful scenery lined with strangely shaped cliffs and wide white sandy beaches, as well as lodgings, restaurants, cafes, and entertainment facilities, so there is a constant flow of tourists all year round.
If you go over a hill, you will see the slightly quiet Wangsan Beach, and the small beach with Fairy Rock is also worth a visit.
Another pleasure of traveling to Yongyudo is the 2.1km cultural trail from Eulwangni Beach to Seonnyeobawi Rock.

Since the establishment of the Cultural Street in July 1989, Wolmido, which has become known as a place for culture and arts, a place for meetings and exchanges, and a performance venue, has established itself as a famous place that comes to mind when thinking of Incheon.
This place is lined with cafes and a raw fish center, so you can choose and enjoy food that suits your taste while looking out at the cool sea.

Palmido Lighthouse

Introduction to Palmido Lighthouse

Palmido, located in Jung-gu, Incheon, is said to be called Palmido (八尾島) because the two islands connected by sandbars look like tails stretching out on both sides, like the character eight (八).
To the people of Incheon, it was a maritime scenic spot that was selected as one of the eight scenic spots of Incheon because of the beautiful traces of the "Palmigwiseon" (八尾歸船), that is, the sailboats that circle Palmido at sunset.
In accordance with the “Long Trade Agreement” signed between Japan and our government, the Joseon Dynasty built the Palmido (old) light tower with a height of 7.9 m and a diameter of 2 m in June 1903.
The white lighthouse that stands tall on Palmido, a small island 15.7km south of Incheon Port, is located at the entrance route to Incheon Port and serves as an indicator for safe navigation of ships entering and leaving the port.

The Palmido Lighthouse, which was the first lighthouse in Korea to light up on June 1, 1903, has performed its mission for the past 100 years and is now designated as a local cultural property of Incheon City and preserved in its original location.
The current Palmido Lighthouse was transformed into a new look in December 2003 with facilities and cutting-edge equipment such as a light tower height of 26m, an observatory, a 100th anniversary symbolic sculpture (Millennium Light), and a satellite navigation correction system (DGPS) reference station.
The light is a large rotating lantern with a prism lens developed using domestic technology, and shines up to 50 km away, flashing once every 10 seconds.
Palmido Island is home to kudzu, sea pine, ivy, and dianthus.

* Date of first lighting - June 1, 1903 * Structure - White circle concrete structure (26m) * Equal quality - 1 white flash for 10 seconds (FI W 10s) * Features - Korea's first modern lighthouse, installed using a mixture of marble and concrete ( Along with the former Palmido Lighthouse, it is equipped with the latest facilities and cutting-edge equipment and serves as a guide to Incheon Port and Incheon navigation.
